Dean, Yale School of Management
Dean Garten is the William S. Beinecke Professor in the Practice of International Trade and Finance for the Yale School of Management. He previously served on the faculties of both the Columbia Business School and New York University. Dean Garten earned his M.A. and Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University and his B.A. from Dartmouth College.
Dean Garten was the undersecretary of commerce for international trade from 1993-1995.A veteran of 13 years on Wall Street, Dean Garten specialized in debt restructuring in Latin America for Lehman Brothers, building investment banking opportunities in Asia for Shearson Lehman, and being part of the financial advisory business of the Blackstone Group.
Dean Garten is the author of two books - The Big Ten: Big Emerging Markets and How They Will Change Our Lives and A Cold Peace: America, Japan, Germany and the Struggle for Supremacy. He currently writes a monthly column on the global marketplace for Business Week magazine. and is the author of over 50 articles for publications that include Foreign Affairs, Harvard Business Review, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal.
