Andy Childs Speaker Biography
Born in the musically-rich city of Memphis, Tennessee, Andy Childs began performing professionally at a local amusement park while he was still in high school. After studying music business at the University of Memphis, Childs spent ten years touring and song-writing, eventually landing a recording contract with RCA Records in Nashville. Andy recorded two albums for RCA, highlighted by guest appearances from Timothy B. Schmidt of the Eagles on background vocals, and Mac MacAnally, who added guitar and vocals to Andy's version of Mac’s classic song 'Simple Life'. Three singles managed chart success, and the accompanying music videos received frequent airplay on CMT, TNN, GAC, MUCH Music (Canada), and CMT Europe. The video for 'Simple Life' reached the #1 spot on Billboard's country music video chart. Promotional touring took Andy on the road opening for Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Clint Black, Trisha Yearwood, Tanya Tucker, Charlie Daniels Band, and many other top country stars.
After three years with RCA, Andy Childs signed on as a staff songwriter for EMI Music, and then Windswept Music. With four other veteran musicians, Andy formed the band ‘Sixwire’, and the guys were immediately signed to Warner Brothers Records. Sixwire’s Warner release debuted in the Top 30, and featured two hit singles and music videos. After a couple of years touring with Lonestar, SheDaisy, Tim McGraw, Sara Evans, and many others, Sixwire was invited to audition for a new television show being developed by the producers of American Idol...
In August of 2007, Andy Childs and Sixwire flew to Las Vegas to audition for American Idol's new show THE NEXT GREAT AMERICAN BAND, which would air on FOX in the fall. Sixwire had been selected from their video submission out of around 10,000 other submissions to be within the 200 bands chosen to audition. Sixwire made it on to the show, along with eleven other finalists, and moved to Los Angeles to begin the weekly tapings at Television City, the home of American Idol and Dancing With The Stars. After twelve weeks of performing original and cover songs on the FOX television series, Sixwire finished in second place, and had found a new audience nation-wide. Upon their return to Nashville, Sixwire was chosen by CMT producers to be the house band for their new competition show called CAN YOU DUET. The CMT show has just wrapped its second season, and Sixwire will return to recording and touring soon.
Currently, Andy Childs is traveling and performing with his Memphis and Nashville-based back-up band. Specializing in major corporate events, his clients include FedEx, Disney, Sun Microsystems, and hundreds more. Over the years, Andy has performed in all 50 states and more than a dozen other countries. His television experience includes appearances on all of the major networks, many cable networks, and dozens of syndicated shows in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Japan. His association with the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Tennessee Department of Tourism has taken Andy around the world promoting tourism for the city of Memphis and the state of Tennessee.
When not touring, Andy Childs resides in Nashville, Tennessee. His time at home in Nashville is spent writing songs and producing recording projects. Andy’s songs have been recorded by Nashville artists Chris Cagle, George Canyon, Blackhawk and others, as well as several artists in Europe. Andy often performs around Nashville at song-writer clubs like the famous Bluebird Cafe, and frequently tours around the country performing his solo-acoustic show. 901-754-9404.
